Carsten Nathani arbeitete als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Professur für Umweltphysik. Er erweiterte das Spektrum der Forschungsgruppe 'Energie und Klima' um ökonomische Fragestellungen. Seine Forschungsinteressen umfassen

• die ökonomische Modellierung der Determinanten des Energiebedarfs,
• energie- und umweltorientierte Input-Output-Modelle,
• die Integration von Bottom-Up- und Top-Down-Modellen,
• den Materialverbrauch als Treiber des Energiebedarfs und Materialeffizienzstrategien als Optionen zur Energieeinsparung.
