Research Interests

I have been a PhD student with the Environmental Physics group since 2011. My research focuses on improving our understanding of global phytoplankton distributions using a combination of observational data and models. I have contributed to the Marine Ecosystem Model Intercomparison Project (MAREMIP) effort to develop a global atlas of marine plankton functional type biomass (MAREDAT, Marine Ecosystem Data), with a particular focus on the haptophytes (Phaeocystis and coccolithophores). I am interested in the ecological niches of phytoplankton groups, the improvement of model representation of plankton distributions, and the intercomparison of observational datasets from microscopy, HPLC and satellite imaging.
